Bowling and PizzaHut
Went bowling with the rest of the poly-goers of 4F on wednesday!! :) But Linxian couldn't make it, because he had some operation or something. Overall, it was quite fun, but I sort of got bored with bowling somewhat later that day. haha. Talked about why each of us eventually decided on Poly blah blah blah. And learnt a lot about one another's story deep down inside their heart LOL!

Was supposed to work with Hx, Pearl and Meiling at the indoor stadium today. But wlao, when I was at my block's 7th storey's staircase step number 2, the person called me.
"Actually we have enough people working today, so you don't have to come down."
And he said that when I told him I was on my way already! Specially bought a black Gio pants $53 because of the work (ok la ok la, I already wanted to buy that during new year HAHA). Anyway, I'm not bothered by that don't worry. But hor, they very disorganised and irresponsible la! For me it's ok, even if I've met my frens at Hg pt also nvm, I can easily spend some effort to walk back. As for Hx, who properly travelled down from Toa Payoh just to receive a call of rejection. What's worse, Pearl and Hx was only properly informed that they are not working when they called the person. And Meiling had to travel from Malaysia and Pearl from Jurong! (haha!)
And hor, got this boss who kept messaging all of us that we cannot last minute back out etc and remind us not to be late blah blah. In the end, they back us out. When I received the call, I was not angry at all. A bit happy because YAY NO WORK, but also a bit shock, where got such company one! But now I also not very angry la, just find the whole incident very stupid and a horrible waste of time.
hope we get the $5 compensation we asked for. haha!

The Reader

Ever thought how fortunate it is if you can read, read to someone, or even, being read to. This amazing film leaves you thinking: why reading, is more than just doing so? The chinese title of the film, 为爱朗读, already suggests why the main character reads to his lover everyday. The one word to describe the film is sad.
Anyway, Kate Winslet acted really well in the film, portraying the character in an artistic style. She has received award for this role as Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress. The reason for this difference, is that she appears less frequently than a usual main actress would, yet the story revolves around her. For me, I think she's an obvious main actress, if not for these difference, I wouldn't even give it a thought. Oh yes, hope she could just win this Oscar!!
Why The Reader is worth the attention, and emotions?
1. It is easily the most melancholic romance film of the year.
2. The film leaves you realising that age gap is not the most important thing. (Character Hanna Schmitz is twice the age of her boyfriend, Micheal Berg)
3. To find out how a screen actor can act really like an old lady (when you're only in the thirties)
4. To hear views from the Nazis, rather than always saying how pathetic the commoners are; the prisoner guards are humans too, mind you.
5. To see Voldermort (Ralph Fiennes la!) in true form.
Oh yes, when you google to look for The Reader under image search, this picture below keeps appearing. Why? It's one of the few scenes, that Kate Winslet and David Kross are dressed when in this house. It's R21 for a reason, ya know! Actually I think this pict is boringggg.

Had this been a Singaporean production, David Kross won't be able to participate in the movie launch! This had happened once in singapura during movie launch of Home Song Stories. HAHA!

P.S/ This is my first time watching a R21 (illegally). OMG.

Valkyrie

Caught Valkyrie with Pearl and Hx today. It was nice, but that's all that I can say. Nothing in particular that's outstanding, except the story itself, which was adapted base on the truth. I still can't get over the fact that Tom Cruise cannot act. But hmmm, I thought right, at the beginning, Tom Cruise a bit like too heroic lor. It's partly because it's him, but mainly because of the lines and the way he appeared; it makes him seem too much like a miracle. But towards the end, I thought he did quite well when it comes to emotions. Kinda sad he couldn't get to talk to his wife eventually.
Why Valkyrie is worth itching my butt?
1. Because it helps you obtain A1 in history in O's easier, as you know how scary Hitler is, and why some people hated him so much, while why some respected, loved and worshipped him.
2. It was breathlessly riveting (at some point only la), and simply saddening and heart aching towards the end, seriously.
3. If you adore Tom Cruise, you would find him stunning in the film, but if you don't, you would still find that he performed quite well.
Oh yes, there's this two/three indian guys sitting on my beside de beside de beside (which two seats away). And they would giggle every time they saw The Fuhrer portrait. Bet they think they have similar moustaches. At one point, I was thinking of asking the couple beside me to ask them to keep quiet, because as usual polite and courteous self, I wouldn't 'SHHHHHHHH' them. Maybe someday I just might, lor!

lSlumdog Millionaire
Caught Slumdog Millionaire today. A good film! And the best part of it, however, is not the actors, but the cinematography, directing and music/song(haha!) OK, those who watched will know why it's funny, because the entire film uses very indian-ny songs and music. It is easily the best picture of the year, seriously!
Why Slumdog Millionaire is worth the special trip and a ticket which cost $6?
1. The entire movie is filmed through very special angles; every scene surprises you with a new view! Bravo to director Danny Boyle :)
2. The songs inside are very unqiue, even those short music to further enhance the tense atmosphere is filled with Indian-ese.
3. The film has a balanced mixture of humour, thrill and emotions.
4. It tells the tales of how indignant the 'slumdogs' feel, and why 'you don't have to be a genius'.
5. It is special, because there's no one word to describe the film, it's simply 'the feel-good film of the decade' :)
I was running late for the movie u know! I literally half walked half run when I got out of the MRT, and because I was so time-conscious, I realised a ride from HG to DG takes 20-21 min. And once I reached the ticket office, suddenly this huixian called me and told me claude is very handsome, ya like anna's "omg he's so hot la! why we never get this instructor!" YEP. And hor, while I was rushing, I saw this person who looked extremely familiar, then she also gave me that face of bewilderment. She suddenly waved and mouthed 'hello' and I waved back. But I still don't know who is she! And I'm dead sure she also not sure who I am laaaaaa.

Desperate Housewives

Anyway, today, the last episode was full of emotions, thrill and humour (as always). But right before it ends off today, they gave the viewers a little sneak preview into DH 5! The story brings the lives of the housewives five years later, where each of their kids grew. Katherine's Dylan is getting married, Bree started a business, Susan got a new husband (that's like the 3rd alr!), Lynette's (my favourite!!!) sons are like those gangsters. And most happening, and surprising, and tempting of all is Gaby, who's always the prettiest among the 5, is now a mother of 2, and no more make-ups!
OMG!! I can't wait for Season 5. Fortunately, though Singaporeans had a long wait for season 4 the other time, this time round, we don't have to be as patient as the Americans! Because, season 5 is beginning, or rather continuing, immediately next week. So yup YAY!
A little sneak!
Gaby: I have 2 children...
Eddie: For what? Breakfast?
*
Eddie: I have a new husband!
Someone: Who's?
(Eddie was famous for snatching others' husbands, in the show)

How I Spent my Valentine's Day
Okayyy, my vday was spent, in one way, kinda eventful, thou lamely spent. HAA!
Early in the morning, I went down to school to watch my juniors perform. The play is really cooool, very claudeandsam, meaning a lot actions/more physical. It really doesn't matter what they get, gold/silver/bronze/COP. Because after these 4 years, the most important thing is really to go experience it.
Anyway, then travelled down to J8 to meet Pearl, Hx, Laosun and Eve. Wahhhh long time no see mich alr, cause this time she got dental. LOL. Had Ding Tai Fung this time. Hmmm yummy. But, it was filling, yet definitely NOT satisfying. Like wad Hx said, "越吃越饿!"

Today, travelled down to meet Hx and Pearl for lunch at nihon mura, at cathay. Took a lot of ice cream sticks = ordered a lot of foooooood!! Wah we all eat until dowan to move. And comment of the day: nihon mura's waiters have SUCKY attitudes mannnnnn. The food is nice, and as usual: occasionally, I'd accidentally eat too many wasabi and the whole face would burn like helllllll!! But I love it!
Oh, I couldn't finish my rice, though I think it's nice!
After lunch, we stayed around in the restaurant and sat for a while. Talk. Then, Hx and I trained down to Wisma, while Pearl to centrepoint. Then after that, both Hx and I were like stranded in the middle of nowhere, because we didn't know whether to wait there for Pearl or walk to find Pearl. Eventually, we walked there. And had starbucks!
Oh yes, Pearl called NCHS today to ask about the relief teacher thing. And the reply by the clerk was, "no no now no more". Heeeee :)

81st Oscar Nominations
YAY. The long-awaited oscar academy award is coming sooooon! :) Everybody, I'm not free on 23rd Feb that's it, I'm gonna spend my time with TV.
This year's Best Actors are (from left):
Richard Jenkins, The Visitor
Sean Penn, Milk
Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon
Brad Pitt, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler
Ok, I've no idea who the hell Richard Jenkins is! But I first saw Sean Penn on Ch5 in a film, I Am Sam, and after the movie, I couldn't understand why he didn't get the award as best actor for the role. Nevertheless, he once won academy best actor for Mystic River. Frank Langella... errrrr, next! Brad Pitt, yay congrats to him for his first nomination as best actor in the academy award! Mickey Rourke, the winner of this year's Golden Globe. Also don't know who he is.
Best Actress:
Meryl Streep, Doubt
Angelina Jolie, Changeling
Kate Winslet, The Reader
Anne Hathaway, Rachel Getting Married
Melissa Leo, Frozen River
Meryl Streep (my favourite here!) is the actress, ever, who has the most academy award nominations (12). Basically, she won the best actress in 1982 (right before I was even born!) as Sophie in Sophie's Choice. I couldn't believe Angelina Jolie, the sexy model, could get nominated laaaaaaa. But almost everyone says she really performed, seriously, she may just win it you know, pretty actresses always find their way in. LOL! Oh, she once won best supporting actress for Girl, Interrupted. Kate Winslet won Golden Globe this year, but for The Revolutionary Road. (The strangest thing is, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for The Reader in Golden Globe) Anyway, for those who still don't know, like me who only realised it this year, she played Rose in Titanic. Ok, Anne Hathaway is soooooo Pearl and Hx de favourite! Though I like her, I still think her acting lacks in depth, nvm la she still young. Wad's more, it's only her first nomination right! Melissa Leo, ermmmmm...
Best Picture:
The Reader
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Slumdog Millionaire
Frost/Nixon
Milk
Oh yes, the nominations for best directing is also directors from these five films ok! The Reader is hmmmm a story about a guy and a girl (the actual plot is very long!) during world war 2. The Curious Case... is about a guy who ages backwards, meaning to say: become younger as the years passed by. Slumdog Millionaire, the winner of Golden Globe, is about this indian boy who won the millionaire game show, but was suspected of cheating. Frost/Nixon tells the tale of the battle between Forst & Nixon. (don't care not interested) Milk speaks the heart of a gay politician, wow.
Tsk, films nowadays are so restricitng! Just among these 5 films, only 2 are PG. And, I can only watch 3 films out of these 5, not like I'll really go and watch all of which though. But haiya, how come like that. tsk tsk tsk.
P.S./ I think the indian teenager in Slumdog Millionaire looks like Zheng Yi! LOL!

I Love NCHS
Went back lovely NCHS with Pearl, Huixian and no more. Shit, normally I would type at least one comer (" , ") but then this time is Pearl and Huixian.
Anyway, today was quite fun. had some laughs. Pearl and I shared buying a dove amicelli, that's for Mdm Yeo. We ate noodles (of course la!) which melissa misses a lot, and ltr at 430 had cheesebaked rice. haha! Talked to a lot of teachers today and it's really fun! I miss going to school. In fact, I can rmb during sec 3's hols I kept saying I don't mind school reopening because it feels more... hmmm... got life lor.
saw Mr Ho first, he so cute! but we barely talked to mdm yeo, because she had to rush off. then saw mr goh and talked to him about poly la, jc etc. very funny la, but aiya, can't they just wish us All The Best?! and then quickly rushed to the stairs in time to wave goodbye to Mrs Hoo. next up was Ms Kong, who kept using the word 'forté', and couldn't stop saying we are going to enjoy poly etc. yay :) Hmm, then it was Ms Pey, and in the middle, was a short talk with Tien. Talking with Ms Pey was kinda.... hmmm. not hilariously funny not boring. we now like really friend with ms pey like heart to heart talk. LOL. oh yes! all the teachers in the school complaining busy alr leh, saying what aiming band 1. aiyooooo, all our fault la, because we this yr nv improve in band. BUT SsssssCUSE MEEEEE, if our batch sudd BAND 1, sure is send results to wrong school one. But I'm sure this yr's batch would do quite a good job, they are (most of them) hardworking ones. ms kong said jumping to band 1 is not easy one, "it's a HOP, not JUMP arrrr..."
the teachers are all envious of our carefree life, but we don't like it at all! but sure enough, in the years to come, we'd wonder why we hated this period so much.
P.S/ Pearl, Hx and I had just applied for a job as a relief teacher. OMG laaaaaa.
-THE END-
The morning of 初十三 had been very eventful.
Mr. and Mrs. Chng were found trapped in their room for an estimated duration of two hours, being only released after 1030a.m. It was reported that a similar incident had happened to their children, who only wanted to be known as HeadQuarter and YummyKurry, eight years before.
On that particular night, the 2 children were playing in the master bedroom and enjoying the only air-conditioner in the house, while the parents were out for a wedding dinner. When the daughter of the Chng family wanted to get some drink from the kitchen, they both realised, the door knob was officially faulty and was beyond repair. The twelve year old sister was worried sick at that point, for they were locked, without having any form of communications technologies (such as a mobile phone) and worse of all, an annoying brother by the side. Eventually when the parents arrived home, the rescuing took only about half an hour, I think.
When finally being released, the 8 year old YummyKurry (also the youngest in the family), quipped, "Lucky there was a toilet inside. Or else I shh shh in my pants o-leh-di!"
On 7th February 2009, an incident similar to this shook the world. Instead of the young ones, this time the parents were trapped. I was informed: the father of age fifty-four had accidentally closed the door while trying to remove the clothes hanging behind the door. Since the incident eight years ago, the door knob has never been repaired, and as for the door? It was never closed for ten years, straight.
One can claim this fortunate, because Mrs. Chng had a mobile phone with her. She immediately called her son, YummyKurry, who slept like a pig and did not hear the phone ringing. Her daughter was her last hope, and the couple prayed fervently that their daughter picks up the call. She did. But she said, "five more minutes then I go try la. I want to sleep." (OK, she didn't say that!)
HeadQuarter tried valiantly with the keys to the door but to no avail. Her brother was awoken by the noise from the commotion, and soon joined the rescue team. As the master bedroom was right beside the daughter's bedroom, the siblings constantly passed tools like hammer and screwdrivers through the back windows of both the room.
Eventually, everyone gave up and went back to sleep. Ok, no no no no no no no! Finally, the married couple was able to hammer the door knob off. Just when everyone thought the storm was over, they all realised that this, was just the beginning. The god damn *ucking lock was still blocking the door! The family of four each took turns to try to remove the lock, and that was when the media came in. Hundred over reporters and camera men filled the house shortly, all eager to take snapshots, and to earn exclusive news about the incident.
Mr. Chng then called his friend, Unlce Coffeeshop, who is close to being a locksmith. Arriving in less than ten minutes, he had to squirm through the raucous crowd, which took about fifteen minutes. He found the peculiar incident incredulous, and could not figure out why the lock could not be removed.
After hours of trying, he succeeded by whipping out his magical wand and shouted the incantation Alohomora. The door banged opened, and everyone cheered. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and relief washed through the Chng family. The couple, was saved.
Uncle Coffeeshop even told the children, jokingly, "This was one tough hurdle for your parents!"
Exclusive snapshots by Gossy Pee, top notch paparazzi of Singapore.
Though a happy ending it may be, the reunion of the family comes with big sacrifice: a scar on the door, forever. Ok, the above report was half real half fake. Can you tell how bored I am! But my sis and I was indeed trapped in the same room for the same reason eight years ago. And no, today there were only 5 pple in the house. HAHAHA!
