One World One Dream
Friday, August 15, 2008 ( 6:36 PM )
yes, it is a dream come true for team Singapore. the medal after the long wait of 48 years.
other countries are aiming for the Gold medal, whereas colours of the medal didn't matter to Singapore at all, we just want A Medal.
it was table tennis, women's team. the match started from 1430 and ended at 6pm. a 3 and a half hr battle. i've watched from 4pm and it was more than just a table tennis match. i've watched the girls perspire out of fear instead of tiredness. i've watched the girls begin to lose hope each time they missed the ball. i've watched the girls testing out each other's patience. especially in the last match, where every point would be struggled for for at least 1min.
good job feng tian wei, li jia wei, and wang yue gu. u've made your dream, and our dream, come true! i must say the biggest credit should go to feng tian wei, instead of our hot favourite, li jia wei. she won 2 singles match in the semifinals. wad a fight! her strategy was to do it slowly and wait till the opponent's patience run out, so that their strikes would probably miss the table. also, realising that the Korean's skills were of 'rotating' the balls, she intentionally stretch the ball with strong hits so the Koreans would move further away from the table. then she would suddenly give the ball just a gentle touch so it just pass the net by perhaps a few centimetres. the Koreans being so far away from the table, would definitely not be able to come back in time for the ball. so the point would go to feng tw.
during the doubles match, i think our team probably won by luck. i can see the Koreans having a great chemistry between one another. yet our team members, li jia wei and wang, kept bumping into each other. lol. still, it was an effort, and team Singapore won by 3-0.
alright back to me. my feet was freezing and my palms were sweating as i watched the match. i smsed pearl, mich and msn lao sun during the match and we kept saying like "so scared now!" "wow! we won" etc. i wasn't even able to sit down on the sofa and during the last match, i kept walking ard the living room.
the atmosphere there in China was HIGH. during the last match, the other team members got so agitated and excited that Singapore's Wang was given a red card and sent out of the court. after which, it was Korea's Kim Kyung Ah who was sent out. they might be fighting outside ya know. haha!! tears after the match. Singapore's tears of joy. And Korea's Park something cried coz she lost the last match.
the match was more than an entertainment, more than a game. it was a battle to achieve that One and Only dream we all shared.
and so the next game would be the finals, and we're all quite sure that for now, we would not be able to defeat China. but still, a silver medal is good enough.
the date August 15th was a day for many to remember, when Japan surrendered to America. and three others special day that i've heard from the radio.
now, there's one more for Singapore, for we've won our 2nd Olympic medal.
